Biography / Insook Hwang
Born
in South Korea
Ms.
Hwang earned her M.E. (major in
Art Education) at South Korea’s Seoul
National University in 1994 and an M.F.A. (major in Painting, minor in
Sculpture) degree
at
The City College
of New York in the United
States
in 1999.
She's had 15
solo exhibitions in both Korea and the U.S., including Real Art Ways in 2015
and at the Richmond Art Center's Loomis Chaffee School in 2013, where she was a
visiting artist, and has participated in two major International Contemporary
Arts Exhibitions (Busan Biennale 2002 in Korea and Officina Asia 2004 in
Italy).
While exhibiting widely she has, as an adjunct professor, taught a
Mixed media class at Albertus Magnus College and
Educational Center for the Arts in
New Haven.
Ms.
Hwang is also a recipient of numerous grants and awards including; Artist
Fellowship Grant for Mixed media and 2D installation from the Connecticut Arts Council of Economic
and Community Development (DECD), Office of the Arts (COA) in 2015, A.R.T. grant for individuals
from the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation in
2013, and the Artist Fellowship Grant from Connecticut Commission on Culture &
Tourism for works on paper in 2010.
